I do love a good tan top with the right body color.

Yeah, my bad back won’t allow me to even think about lifting one of those.

That top doesn’t look stock, it looks better...

It’s an aftermarket frameless top. It just hugs the roll bars. They do look good but are more of a pain to flip back than the factory framed top as you have to completely remove the frameless one.

I was trying to justify a tan top for our red JK the other day, but it already has such a cohesive red and black theme going on I just can’t see making it work. What kind of top is that?
Also, how big are those suckers? I was wrestling a 35" tire on a wheel out of the bed of my lifted Silverado over the weekend and man I can’t imagine the rotational mass those things exhibit at speed vs. some low profile tires on a car. No wonder trucks are often turds on the dyno.

As jeepoftheseus pointed out, it’s a frameless top , but I have no idea whose.

The logo above the rear window appears to be BesTop.

Solid Oppo sleuthing there! I appreciate that. Our ‘07 JK has a Bestop convertible top with the folding frame , and it’s in excellent shape, but honestly it’s a little cumbersome to fully take down. I need to lube up the zippers and see how much that helps. I also don’t like how the front sits on the windshield frame, but it doesn’t leak a drop and based on my research it sits normal.

None of them appear to be simple to put up and take down. If it doesn’t leak, it’s a keeper.

This is...an interesting look.
That’s the Bestop Trek top.

Interesting, eh? You’re being nice. That maroon on red gots to go. I do like the way the slanted back tops look. Ours is a 2 door, but it’s on Rubi’ wheels. I think we’ll ultimately roll with the soft top until I can find a deal on a used hard top with those split targa panels up front. Don’t they call them freedom panels or something? Those.

Probably a mantra to live by. I do like popping out the side windows and just letting the rear window fold into the cargo area after unzipping it. Best of both worlds.

Freedom panels are an interesting compromise. Dramatically easier than dealing with a soft top, but also a lot less interesting.
At least you can combine freedom panels with removing the doors to get a much more open experience than, say, a sunroof.

Truth. We’ll see how it goes once I work on the zippers a little and get them moving more freely. I don’t think the top was used very much before we bought it. I did pop the doors off the second day we had it and GEEZ they were heavier than I figured! About 70 lbs each. You don’t have to be power lifter to carry them, but hooking them onto the hinges was an exercise.

They can’t be that heavy or I’d be crippled.
Someone has a tool to help carry them, but I can’t remember where I saw that. The real problem is that the pins should be different lengths so you can insert them into one hinge at a time instead of having to align both simultaneously.
